Who we are

Founded in 1981, The Cat Practice was Michigan’s first cats-only veterinary hospital. We provide advanced preventative and medical care, with a special focus on early detection — helping cats live longer, better, and healthier lives.

Cats are experts at hiding discomfort. That’s why early detection matters. With the right care, many cats now live well into their 20s — and we’re here to help them get there.

Located in Birmingham, Michigan, we welcome cats of all breeds from throughout southeast Michigan. Our veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians follow the highest standards of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), and we work closely with cat families to guide care decisions with compassion and expertise.

Our approach to care

Every cat is unique- shaped by their breed, age, health history, habits, and environment. At The Cat Practice, we tailor care to the individual cat, working closely with you to explore options and make the right decisions together.

Our feline veterinarians and veterinary nurses (licensed veterinary technicians) combine medical expertise with a deep respect for each cat’s needs and personality.

What you will find at The Cat Practice:

Options for Care
You’re part of the care team. We provide complete, thorough information and welcome your questions. (Yes, even about your kitty’s poop!) The more we learn, the better we can care for your cat- together.

Individualized Treatment Plans
No one-size-fits-all care here. We take a human-quality approach to medicine and customize each plan based on your cat’s needs and circumstances.

Preventive Focus
Our detailed exams aim to catch changes early, before issues become serious. Our licensed veterinary technicians work hands-on alongside our doctors to provide attentive, personalized care.

Longer Appointments
We take our time- getting to know your cat, answering your questions, and guiding you through care decisions without rushing.

Open Door Policy
Cats are welcome to bring their people along for routine lab work and tests. Many kitties are comforted by your presence, and if hospitalization is needed, visitors are always welcome- your support is part of their recovery.
