We follow the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) guidelines. Below are listed some general health recommendations for healthy cats. Of course, if your cat is ill or has a progressive disease, your doctor may recommend a different course of treatment.

• Biannual physicals for healthy cats less than 7 years of age (unless he/she is on any prescription medications, then he/she will need to been seen more often).
• Biannual physicals, and annual blood chemistry panel, and urinalysis for healthy cats greater than 7 years of age or any cat on prescription medications.
• Feeding an age- and lifestyle-appropriate high quality dry and canned diet, such as Hill’s Science Diet, Iams, or Eukanuba.
• At least two (2) Feline leukemia/FIV tests in your cat’s lifetime if he/she does NOT go outside.
• Annual Feline leukemia/FIV tests if your cat does go outside.
• Microchip identification.
• FVRCP (distemper) vaccine, good for 3 years after initial kitten series.
• Rabies vaccine, given yearly.
• Annual feline leukemia vaccine for cats who spend any time outdoors or who could be exposed to feline leukemia positive cats.
• Heartworm preventative given once monthly year round.
• Daily home dental care (brushing) and regular dental evaluations from a veterinarian.
• Annual fecal testing for intestinal parasites (even for indoor-only cats).
• Strategic deworming for cats that spend any time hunting or outdoors.
• Flea preventative given once monthly for cats that spend any time outdoors.
