Feline Leukemia Vaccine
The Cat practice does not over-vaccinate cats. We only recommend the feline leukemia vaccine if your cat's risk of exposure is increased, such as by spending any time outdoors.
The Cat Practice utilizes the Merial™ PUREVAX® Recombinant Leukemia vaccine, used in conjunction with the
Vet Jet™ transdermal vaccination system.

PUREVAX® Recombinant Leukemia contains a non-adjuvanted lyophilized suspension of a recombinant vectored feline leukemia vaccine plus sterile water diluent. A canarypox vector has been modified, using recombinant technology, to produce expression of desired antigens capable of stimulating a protective immune response to feline leukemia. Safety and immunogenicity of this product have been demonstrated by vaccination and challenge tests in susceptible cats.
PUREVAX® Recombinant Leukemia is recommended for the vaccination of healthy cats 9 weeks of age or older as an aid in the prevention of disease due to feline leukemia virus.

With the Vet Jet™ positioned perpendicular to the leg, administer 0.25 mL (1 dose) transdermally (through the skin) in the lateral thigh. For primary vaccination, cats should receive two 0.25-mL dose vaccinations, three weeks apart. Annual revaccination is recommended.
Diagnostic testing for FeLV prior to vaccination is strongly recommended.
In rare instances, administration of vaccines may cause lethargy, fever, and inflammatory or hypersensitivity types of reactions. Treatment may include antihistamines, anti-inflammatories, and/or epinephrine.
